Indra and Telefónica develop the Galician healthcare home assistance technological platform

The Indra-Telefonica joint venture has been selected by the Galician Health Service (SERGAS) to develop Digital Home Healthcare, the first home care and support technological platform of the Xunta de Galicia that brings, through applying new technologies, health services to the patient's home.

Digital Home Healthcare will make it possible to connect health centers with the patient's home by establishing a two-way communication channel enabling his or her status to be continuously monitored without having to go to health centers and establish communication in real time. Its purpose is to enhance the quality of life of patients, preventing hospital readmissions and frequent journeys to health centers.

The solution given by Indra and Telefonica provides two types of services: one intended for patients who remain on an inpatient basis in their homes; and another aimed at prevention, surveillance and monitoring of diseases, especially those that are chronic or require rehabilitation processes, and to promote continuity of care at home.

This platform offers many features for both patients and healthcare professionals. From reconciliation of treatments to avoid interactions, inconsistencies or duplications, to teleconsultation by videoconference, sending reminders for self-care, self-monitoring of biometric parameters - blood pressure, temperature, pulse, glucose, etc. -, nutrition plans, exercise or rehabilitation.

More accessible services

Patients can access the platform through multiple devices - digital interactive TV, web or mobile - and thus interact with healthcare professionals, regardless of the location where they are to perform procedures, consult their medical or drug history, set receiving notices, establish health programs or review training materials on their medical condition.

Meanwhile, professionals can develop monitoring and comprehensive patient care from home, exhaustively and optimizing time, by not increasing the number of trips or visits to the surgery.

The project is part of the health innovation plan InnovaSaúde (www.sergas.es/h2050-innovasaude), consisting of an investment of over 45 million euros, co-financed by the ERDF, within the R&D&i Operational Program by and for the benefit of businesses, Tecnolóxico Fund 2007-2013.
