DMRS - DTNMANET Routing Study for critical infraestructure protection

Project Description

The objective is to study and propose innovative communication models that are capable of improving network security and resistance against intentional attacks (terrorism) or natural disasters.
This model is based on a hybrid MANET/DTN (Mobile Adhoc Network & Delay / Disruptive Tolerant Networking) architecture, equipped with functionalities that make it robust in light of critical situations.
The solution will cover various scenarios of interest in Europe, such as future power grids based on "smart grids", power plants, refineries, or gas distribution networks, including a definition for demonstrating the refinery scenario.
This project will analyse the protocols that make it possible to protect route discovery mechanisms.
On another hand, the DTN (Delay-tolerant networks or Disruption-tolerant networks) concept represents a development in that way communications are understood since it uses protocols that have been conceived so as to not depend on a continuous connection.

Indra's Role

Indra leads the project and is the contact point with the European Commission. It´s essentially responsible for:

• Analysing state-of-the-art MANET and DTN technologies.
• Collaborating in the design of scenarios and use cases.
• Defining a hybrid MANET/DTN architecture.
• Defining field tests.
