EMV: Implementation of the bank card-based fare control model in the Madrid Metro Network – Lot 1 and Lot 7

Description of the project
Project Implementation of the bank card-based fare control model (EMV) in the Madrid Metro Network – Lot 1 aims to modernize the access gates of the Madrid Metro network by incorporating open payment capabilities using bank cards and mobile devices.
Project 7724000040 – Lot 7 Supply of Software Application for the Adaptation of NUEK’s ONESITE Payments Gateway for the Transit Platform.
The scope of work includes:
- Installation of EMV readers in the access gates.
- Integration of new electronics aligned with the Station 4.0 model.
- Implementation of QR readers.
- Maintenance of compatibility with the Public Transport Card (TTP).
- Incorporation of the MTT (Mobility & Transport Transaction) payment model.
- Adaptations to the payment gateway for the integration of EMV readers in access turnstiles
- Adaptations for integration with the payment back office
- Adaptations to process payment operations through Redsys using the H2H Transit Protocol
- Certifications with the main card brands
The system will allow access via:
- Physical bank card
- Mobile phone (wallet)

- VISA
- Mastercard
- Maestro
- American Express (AMEX)
- China UnionPay (UPI)
- Discover
- Diners Club
- Pay UnionPay (PUP)
- Japan Credit Bureau (JCB)
Deployment is scheduled to be completed at the beginning of March, with full functionality available before the end of the contract, whose extension is currently being processed until May 13.
This project represents a strategic step forward in the digitalization of public transport, improving user experience, interoperability, and the operational efficiency of the system.

Indra´s rol
Indra participates as the technology provider responsible for:
- Deployment of the EMV solution in access gates.
- Integration of new electronics within the Station 4.0 environment.
- Implementation of QR readers.
- Adaptation of the system to the MTT model.
- Ensuring interoperability with existing transport systems.
Indra’s NUEK is responsible for:
- Collection of TAPS generated at the access turnstiles.
- Transmission of journey data to the back office.
- Collection, processing, and distribution of all payment-related operations.
- Communication with Redsys through the H2H protocol.
- Payment gateway service for e-commerce operations related to outstanding balance payments through the Metro de Madrid web portal.
- Certifications completed with all accepted card brands.
