TRANTOR: 5G+ evoluTion to mutioRbitAl multibaNd neTwORks

Description of the Project

The fifth generation non-terrestrial network (5G NTN) began standardization activities in 2018 with great technological interest on the part of terrestrial manufacturers, allowing a convergence of the satellite-terrestrial radio access network. Since the introduction of the peculiarities of the 5G NTN standard, new and more advanced generations of radio access and network management techniques have emerged for their application in various vertical sectors: maritime, automotive, etc. adopt basic 5G implementations. The objective of TRANTOR is to reduce the dependence on third countries of the European industry when addressing global access to broadband Internet by satellite through:

• Adoption of advanced 5G and pre-6G NTN by satellite operators.
• Provide novel satellite components for NTN advanced 5G that evolves low dynamic network single orbital management to highly dynamic multi-orbit multi-band connectivity services.
• Development of advanced NTN and gNB 5G user equipment and extended capabilities for next-generation on-board processing payloads.
• Development of AI governance modules for efficient resource management and creation of the TRANTOR mission planner for the design of future satellite networks
• Secure network of satellite operators.
• Generate impact and standardize the results of the projects. Support 3GPP standardization activities.

Industrial Partner

Indra´s Rol

Indra will mainly contribute to the following activities:

• Integration of industrial solutions to operate and manage satellite networks. It will help drive the adoption of 5G and 6G NTN by satellite operators.
• Development of Network Manager and Supervisor.
• Assessment of technical security risks to detect possible communication systems.
• Security threats and risks assessment, as well as to provide a security risk mitigation solution.
