Indra will implement the integrated surveillance system in the black sea border of Rumania for 18 millones de euros
The company was awarded its first contract in the security market in Romania and consolidates its maritime surveillance system that controls more than 1000 km of Spanish coast and is also in implementation stage in Hong-Kong and Latvia
This second contract for border surveillance in Eastern Europe reaffirms Indra?s position in an area with a significant growth potential
Indra, the premier IT company in Spain and a leading IT multinational in Europe, was awarded its first contract in the Security market in Romania through international tender and competing with the sectors main companies. The ¬ 18 M contract adjudicated by the Romanian Ministry of Finance is to be concluded in 12 months and includes the implementation and start-up of an integrated system for the surveillance of the Black Sea maritime border. This contract for border surveillance in Eastern Europe, second to the one in Latvia last year, reaffirms Indras position in an area with a significant growth potential. In addition, Indras maritime surveillance system is consolidated as a leader solution based on SIVE in Spain.
The integrated system for surveillance, control and observation of maritime traffic in the Black Sea will allow protection of territorial waters and 245 km of Romanian coast from any kind of threat. It will also facilitate aid and rescue at sea and control of the fishing fleet.
The surveillance system to be implemented by Indra will consist of sensor stations equipped with radar systems and electro-optics vision, a radio-link network and a control and command centre. The centre, which will be located in Constanza, will integrate all the information collected by the sensor stations to create a common and unified scenario of the Romanian coast to provide alerts to operators about possible threats (drug trafficking, illegal immigration, smuggling etc.). This way, decision making will be easier and the actions of authorities could be coordinated in advance for an effective response.
The design of the system to be implemented in Romania is based on the maritime border surveillance system that Indra has implemented in Gran Canaria, Huelva and Almería and which will also be operative in Murcia and Ibiza. Once it is finished, it will control more than 1000 km of the coast. The system is also being implemented in Latvia and in Hong-Kong.
Significant growth potential
For Indra the border surveillance sector offers a significant growth potential since the effectiveness of SIVE has been proven and because of the ever growing demand for these type of systems in face of the need of countries to control their borders. In fact, the contract with Romania represents the third time the system has been exported and the second to an East European country. Currently, Eastern Europe is one of the areas with more projects in the border surveillance market worldwide.
Border protection is a critical issue for the European Union, specifically in this area, since many of the countries that have recently joined the EU outline its eastern border. Due to its location, Spain is quite a few years ahead in the imple
