At European level, it is the second major investor in its sector
Its investment increased by 22% average in the last three years
Indra, the premier IT company in Spain and a leading IT multinational in Europe, is the second Spanish company with major investment in R+D, according to the EU Industrial R+D Scoreboard report, published by the European Union this Wednesday. The company goes from third place last year to second this year as a major European investor in its sector.
Indra invested €136.5 M in R+D last year, 37.6% more than the previous year. With these figures, Indra ranks 116 among the European companies that invest the most in this area. However it ranks second in the Computer Services subsector, almost at the same level as Fujitsu Siemens, with €145M, and quite ahead the next companies in ranking; Wincor Nixdorf (€ 96.5M) and TietoEnator (€ 66.9M).
The report also mentions that Indra’s investment increased by 22% average in the last three years, which illustrates the company’s constant efforts, far higher than its peers, whose investment increased by 11.8%.
The report, which analyses the top 1.000 major investors in the European Union in R+D and compares them to the top 1.000 world leaders in this area, includes 21 Spanish companies. For the first time in this report investment of European companies in this area (8.8%) exceeds USA’s (8.6%).
Indra, a leading company in innovation, participates in initiatives that facilitate integration of Spanish companies in new technologies and is also part of the four CENIT projects promoted by the Spanish government. In one of these projects, Indra leads the development of an integral management banking system named ITECBAN and the Hesperia project, concerned with the development of technologies for integral security in public spaces. At European level, it also participates in the SESAR project, a most ambitious initiative launched by the EU to define and implement a management system for Europe’s air traffic.
Recently, the company was acknowledged by the Swiss rating agency SAM in cooperation with PriceWaterHouseCooper as one of the best-positioned company to face future challenges and was included once more in the Dow Jones World Index and Dow Jones Sustainability Index where it has been quoting since 2006. Besides this, Indra is also a sustainability leader in the IT and Internet services subsector ahead of IBM and TATA.
Indra is Spain’s first IT multinational and one of Europe and Latin America’s most important. It is the second European company in its sector according to stock market capitalisation and it is also the second Spanish company with more investment in R+D. In 2007, revenues exceeded € 2.167M; a third part of it came from the international market. The company employs more than 24.000 professionals and has developed projects in more than 90 countries
