Indra awarded the modernisation of Algeria's tax system for euros 27 million
The contract awarded by the Directorate General of Tax includes the implementation of a system to integrate management and to struggle against tax fraud
The project will give support to nearly 10,000 government employees distributed in more than 600 centres across the country
The technological multinational reinforces its local presence with the opening of a permanent office in Algiers and continues advance in Maghreb
Indra, the premier IT company in Spain and a leading IT multinational in Europe, was awarded a ¬ 27 million contract to modernise tax management in Algeria. The project includes the implementation of the SAP tax and revenue management system in the Directorate General of Taxes (DGI) in the Maghribian country in order to centralise and integrate tax administration and to struggle against fraud.
Besides this, it entails a significant improvement in the services to taxpayers as it will facilitate their fulfilling the tax duties electronically and it will make the process more transparent.
In order to provide support to future projects and business opportunities in Algeria, Indra set up a subsidiary in the country. The contract strongly boosts the company’s presence in the country where technology has already been introduced with the implementation of a surface radar and the air traffic control software for Algiers airport, the supply and installation of the ventilation system and the control systems for the Bouria tunnel, which is located at the south of the country.
The solution to be implemented at the DGI consists of a central module where taxes and tax settlements are calculated and it is complemented with CRM to support relationship with tax payers. There is also another module for the registry and management of tax records, an application for the manual and electronic management of forms and a tax payer website to submit tax income and download tax information.
The system, to be implemented in two years and a half, will support the work of nearly 10,000 government employees that work in more than 600 centres of the DGI. It will facilitate exchange and integrated management of the information in the organisation which consists of seven departments in the headquarters and an uncentralised network that comprises a large enterprises management unit, nine regional tax divisions, 54 provincial divisions and more than 600 local offices.
This project is the world’s widest reference regarding the implementation of the Sap tax and revenue management system which offers many opportunities in the international Public administration market.
Advance in MAGHREB
This contract with the DGI reinforces Indra’s position in the MAGHREB, which is considered a strategic area by the technological services multinational and where a contract for the automation of Morocco’s Land Registry and Cadaster Management has been recently awarded for € 13 m as well as the implementation of the DaVinci platform for railway control in Morocco. Several contracts have also been awarded by ONDA (Organisation National de la Securité Aérienne) to improve Morocco’s air traffic for € 6.3 M besides the implementation of an operation management system for port communities in Casablanca harbour, in consortium with Portel.
Furthermore, the company implemented Agadir airport’s air traffic control systems and upgraded Casablanca’s control centre by introducing ADS technology which allows locating airplanes without radars.
One of the most outstanding projects in the region is the modernisation of the commercial department of Gecol, Libya’s electricity company, with the implementation of the Open Utilities management technology system. The system has been fully translated into Arabian, supports all business processes of Gecol’s customer service and includes the implementation of a new communication network, the construction of new buildings and training to more than 3000 users.
Finally, it is also worth mentioning the Sea Horse Network system, based on a satellite communication network to control and exchange information regarding illegal immigration and drug trafficking between Spain, Portugal and North African countries.
