Indra consolidates its leadership of Mexico's transport & traffic market with fournew projects worth €12.5 Million

Indra, the leading multinational technology firm in Spain and one of the main players in Europe and Latin America, is implementing its traffic control and toll technology in the Paquete Michoacán motorways, the Poetas fast lane, the Celaya ring road motorway and the Necaxa Tihuatlan tunnels after being awarded four new contracts in Mexico worth a total of €12.5 million.

These projects consolidate the IT multinational's leadership in the Transport & Traffic market of Mexico, where nearly 90% of the investments in new concessioned roadway infrastructures use Indra technology and where the company has key references such as the Bicentenario Overpass or the Guadalajara-Tepic motorways.

Indra is implementing its intelligent traffic systems (ITS) and toll systems in the Celaya ring road motorway, including a control centre that will integrate the various ITS and surveillance subsystems via closed circuit television (CCTV) and SOS posts. This technology will make it possible to constantly monitor motorway flow conditions, automatically control incidents and alarms for faster and more efficient responses, and improve travel safety, among other benefits.

In the Poetas Fast Lane, Indra has implemented the most advanced free-flow electronic toll technology that allows users to pay via a TAG device installed in their vehicles, without having to stop or slow down. This five-kilometre roadway system, comprised by bridges, tunnels and motorway exits, is located south-west of Mexico City and includes the exits to Querétaro, Toluca and Cuernavaca.

Paquete Michoacán contains two new ring roads in Morelia and Uruapan, the Pátzcuaro-Uruapan road, which will be expanded to four lanes, and the stretch that connects it with the port of Lázaro Cárdenas. It will also be equipped with the toll and electronic toll technology provided by the multinational, which is also responsible for the communication network and the operations centre.

Cutting-edge technology for tunnel management

The tunnel project for the Nexaca-Tihuatlan motorway has been awarded to the temporary joint venture between Indra and FCC Instalaciones. Indra will implement Horus, its centralised tunnel management system, which will govern the systems installed in the tunnels to guarantee maximum performance in everyday processes as well as in emergency situations.

A control centre will make it possible to manage the five tunnels of the Nexaca-Tihuacan motorway, and it will also integrate the various closed circuit television, traffic capacity, dynamic weighing, road signage, clearance gauge control, SOS posts, fire detection, loudspeaker, lighting control, emergency signage and communication systems.

Maximum efficiency, quality and safety

Indra's technology will allow these projects to offer users maximum safety and service quality, as well as make the motorway operations more efficient by improving the flow of vehicles and information for drivers, reducing the number of incidents and optimising the use of resources while addressing events.

Transport and traffic management leaders in Mexico

In recent years, Indra has experienced strong growth in Mexico's Transport and Traffic market, where nearly 90% of investments made in new concessioned road infrastructures use the company's technology.
