Indra Group has become the first technological business group in Spain to integrate five industrial sectors under the ISO 56001 certification for its innovation management system. This is an international standard that recognizes the quality and improvement of organizations’ innovation management systems, with the aim of helping them systematize the innovation processes so as to achieve better results and boost company performance.
The certification extends to the Defence, Space, ATM, Mobility and Information Technology businesses with Minsait. It will enable all of them to improve their competitiveness, efficiency, culture of innovation, and sustainable growth.
AENOR, an institution at the forefront of trust generation, conducted the audit, and in its report it highlights, among other aspects, that the group’s innovation management system is aligned with its Leading the Future Strategic Plan and its technological roadmap, as well as the new organizational structure that drives the company’s strategy and investment in technology promoted by the office of Indra Group’s Chief Technology Officer, headed by Manuel Escalante.
AENOR also welcomes the creation of its own innovation centers and advanced laboratories for the collaborative development of emerging and disruptive technologies. It also points to the numerous Indra Group companies linked to the certification, the broad network of agreements with universities, the solid portfolio of innovation projects, the far-reaching catalog of training activities in the area, and the self-funding projects conceived with a product-based philosophy.
“We’re witnessing significant technological acceleration, particularly in the defence sector, in which the threats are evolving extremely rapidly. This is obliging us to focus on technology, our products and industrialization, which is what drives our Leading the Future Strategic Plan. Thanks to our investment plan and the highly demanding schedule, we’re speeding up the development of these innovation, production and ecosystem collaboration capabilities to enable us to build the future and capitalize on the significant opportunities that lie ahead of us”, declared Joaquín Ponz, Director of Portfolio and Innovation Governance at Indra Group.
As for David Pastor, AENOR’s Conformity Assessment Managing Director, he stated: “Innovation is one of the levers that’s determining the future of companies in the 21st century. Proper innovation management is therefore essential for organizations that are committed to innovation to achieve competitive, efficient, and sustainable results. Indra Group has demonstrated this commitment by obtaining AENOR’s certification in Innovation Management Systems, thus conveying a message of maximum trust and leadership to all of its stakeholders”.
Indra Group is one of the leading companies in Europe in its sector in terms of investment in RDI. In 2024, it earmarked over €427 million to it, a figure accounting for 8.8% of its sales. In accordance with its Leading the Future Strategic Plan, Indra Group will invest over €3 billion in RDI until 2030 and create the Indra Technology Hub, a state-of-the-art integrated center, to drive innovation in cutting-edge defence and aerospace technologies.
In order to streamline its innovation processes against the backdrop of this highly competitive market, the company has set aside advanced resources to its collaborative technological development, which concurrently incorporates technologies combining microelectronics, radio frequency, and photonics, together with quantum computing, optical communications, advanced sensors and simulation, and digital technologies.
Renewal of the UNE 166006 certification
In addition to this international certification, Indra Group recently renewed the Spanish UNE 166006 certification that it obtained for the first time in 2023. This is regarded as a benchmark domestic standard for surveillance and intelligence for RDI management. This recognition endorses the company’s ability to anticipate changes in its environment, harness opportunities, and reduce risks and threats. It also supports its processes to identify lines for improvement, propose new ideas and RDI projects, establish strategic partnerships, and detect any incipient signs liable to shape the future evolution of the company and the sectors in which it operates.
