Indra will improve the efficient and safe management of Transurban’s road assets in Queensland, Australia through a centralized control center

Indra, one of the world's leading global technology and consultancy companies, has been awarded a contract with Transurban Queensland in an international tender to integrate the management of its road assets in the Australian state of Queensland into a single control center equipped with the innovative control technology Indra Mova Traffic.

This contract covers the design, supply, installation, start-up and maintenance of the new integrated management system for road assets over five years, including the three largest tunnels in the city of Brisbane, which until now have been controlled from various control rooms and with multiple independent systems. A single operations centre will improve the efficiency and safety of the road network in Brisbane, the state’s capital city.

Through Horus, its integrated traffic and tunnel management platform, which is part of the Mova Traffic solutions portfolio, Indra will enable the centralized management of road assets with a single solution, visioning and graphic interface, integrating the different Intelligent Traffic Systems (ITS), safety systems and all other subsystems of these roads. In doing so, it will provide a simpler and more efficient operation, both in day-to-day and emergency situations, and higher standards of safety and quality of service.

With a high level of automation, Indra’s solution will provide information in real time to Transurban Queensland to facilitate decision-making and the efficient management of traffic operations on its network. In addition, by incorporating smart technology for the management of incidents, the system guides the operator when responding to each case, making the day-to-day operation simple and efficient.

One of the valued elements in the awarding of the contract was the ability of Indra’s solution to incorporate the latest digital technologies, such as big data and Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS), which in the future could facilitate the communication of connected and autonomous vehicles to the infrastructure. Also, being an open, highly flexible and configurable system, it has the capability to incorporate any new system that Transurban Queensland may require in the future.

By collecting current and historical traffic data, the solution will also facilitate analysis, the generation of reports and the consolidation of the information to make decisions on mobility.

To ensure the reliability, safety and flexibility of the system, Indra will also equip a secondary control center, so that all monitoring systems will be duplicated in two back-up data centers.

The most advanced traffic and tunnel management technology

The contract with Transurban Queensland opens Indra’s relationship with the leading toll road operator in Australia, one of the 20 largest companies on the country’s Stock Exchange and one of the main global infrastructure companies, which also manages and develops toll road networks in Canada and the US.

It also consolidates Indra as one of the world’s leading companies in smart technology for urban mobility and traffic and tunnel management, as its advanced traffic management technology will now be implemented across five continents.

Indra's Horus solution, which is part of the Mova Traffic solutions portfolio, is currently considered to be the most advanced integrated traffic and tunnel management solution in the world and has been implemented in recent years into the most high-profile highways and tunnels in the world, such as the tunnels in London, UK; the Dublin Port Tunnel, Ireland; the Bogotá - Villavicencio divided highway and its 18 tunnels in Colombia; the Chenani Tunnel in India, the largest in south-east Asia; and the Marão tunnel in Portugal, the longest on the Iberian Peninsula. New office in Brisbane

To reinforce this important contract and as a step further for Indra in the Asia-Pacific region and in Australia, where it has been present since 2007, the company is going to establish a new office in Brisbane, which will join those that it already has in Sydney and Newcastle, with around 150 professionals.

Indra is currently completing the modernization of Sydney Trains’ smart video surveillance network, which includes the supply and integration of 9,500 cameras into a fully digital and state-of-the-art video management system. It is one of the main suppliers of radars and aerial navigation systems for Airservices Australia and the world’s leading supplier of DVOR navigation systems that it develops and manufactures directly at its production plant in Sydney. It is currently carrying out a renovation project of its radio navigation for the Royal Australian Air Force and will supply the Australian Army with a forensics laboratory to counter the use of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), among other projects. It also has projects in New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and the Pacific Islands.
